Merthyr Express, 20 March 1915:
Died for his Country
Private T W Hickson of the 2nd Cheshire Regiment, whose home was at 46 Rhyd Terrace, Tredegar, died at Netley Hospital from wounds received at the front. He had served nine years in the Army and was a reservist when war broke out. He rejoined his regiment, which was ordered home about Christmas time and before returning to the front he visited his home about seven or eight weeks ago. On 23 February [1915] his widowed mother was notified that he had been wounded, nothing further was heard by her until Friday last, when a telegram summoned her to the hospital. Her son however died before she arrived. His body was brought to Tredegar on Monday last and was interred with military honours on Saturday. The Town Band under Bandmaster Eli Shaw played the “Dead March” en route to Cefn Golau, Cemetery and the firing party which hailed from Cardiff, fired volleys over the grave of the departed soldier. Wreaths were sent by various members of the family and by the Royal Service Club, Tredegar.
